KARACHI: Certain well-known figures of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement declared on Wednesday that no plot to divide their party would be allowed to succeed.

MQM leader Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari, Haider Abbas Rizvi, MNA Saman Jaffery and others held a press conference at the MQM’s Khurshid Begum Secretariat to reject some media reports that said that they were going to be part of a group within the MQM.

They also reaffirmed their allegiance to the London-based party chief Altaf Hussain.

Mr Subzwari said the MQM was a well-organised party and certain quarters always wanted to divide it, either from outside or internally, but they never succeeded in their conspiracies.

“Only Altaf Hussain is the leader of the MQM and we all are and will remain his workers,” said Mr Subzwari.

He deplored that certain television anchors were spreading rumours about political workers without even taking their viewpoint.

The former leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly also said that some elements wanted MQM lawmakers to change their loyalties, but the MQM foiled that conspiracy when all of its parliamentarians and members of the provincial assembly submitted their collective resignation within a few hours.

He said he had recently returned to the country from the United States. “I strongly condemn all rumours about me and some other party workers circulated as part of a continuing media trial of the MQM.”
