WANA: Eight paramilitary soldiers were injured when a vehicle in a Frontier Corps convoy was hit by an improvised explosives device in Wana, South Waziristan, on Tuesday.

The convoy was passing through the Wana Bazaar when the IED exploded, leaving eight soldiers injured, an official of the political administration said.

The injured were taken to the Scouts Hospital in Wana. After the explosion, security forces cordoned off the area and carried out a search operation.

Agencies add: Officials said that security forces immediately launched a search operation after the attack and called in air support. Soon helicopter gunships targeted suspected positions and bulldozers destroyed shops belonging to suspected militants.

They said that a curfew had been imposed in Wana.
