TIMERGARA: The local lawyers have appealed to the chief justice of Peshawar High Court to take suo motu notice of the illegal occupation of graveyards’ land.

In a statement here on Tuesday, Advocate Hazrat Reman and Advocate Iqbalur Rehman said the district administration removed encroachments from the graveyards’ land in Balambat, Mian Banda and Timergara on the directives of PHC.

They said the district administration also launched an operation on the court’s directives and dismantled kiosks, cabins and other structures erected by land grabbers on the graveyards’ land.

The lawyers said that after some time, people again occupied the land of graveyards in Balambat, Mian Banda and Timergara. They said that the centuries-old graveyard of Balambat was being used for vehicles stand while some people had set up businesses on the land of graveyards.

They complained that the district administration was silent on the matter. They appealed to PHC chief justice to order action against the land grabbers in the district.

TEACHING STAFF: The parents of girl students hailing from Danda Rabat on Tuesday demanded of the provincial government to appoint teaching staff at the lone primary school for girls in the area.

Talking to local journalists, the villagers said that the government girls’ primary school Danda Rabat was being run by a single teacher. They said that it was difficult for the teacher to handle five classes.

The villagers said that the school was established 20 years ago but it had not been upgraded so far. They said that they had requested the district education officer and authorities of the independent monitoring unit to increase staff at the school but to no avail.

The villagers also threatened to bring women and children on the roads if their demand was not met.

LEGAL AID: A non-governmental organisation on Tuesday set up a desk to provide legal assistance and guidance to women victims of discriminatory acts.

Lawyers Aneela Faryal and Anbareen of Dir Area Development Organisation told journalists said the desk would serve as a consultative body to assist women in their cases. They said that DADO also arranged a legal aid clinic at Shingrai and Shahi Koto the other day with the financial support of UNDP.
