Five die in Gujranwala flour mill boiler explosion

GUJRANWALA: At least five people were killed as the roof of a flour mill collapsed following a boiler explosion in Punjab's Gujranwala district on Saturday.

At least 70 labourers were working in the factory when the boiler exploded causing the roof to collapse. Sources told DawnNews that the roof collapse left five dead and at least 30 injured.

Out of those wounded, 10 critically injured workers were shifted to Lahore while the rest were provided first-aid on the site.

Around 10 to 15 labourers are still trapped under the rubble, rescue sources said.

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and demanded an inquiry report while expressing grief over the loss of life and property.

Police took the mill's owner and its manager into custody and initiated a probe into the incident.

Shahbaz Sharif if you are really serious and concerned, please suspend immediately and arrest all those departments heads who failed to perform their duties to prevent such incidents to happen

All avoidable mishaps have become a regular feature in Pakistan, courtesy the inspectors are not doing their work honestly. All good rules are there in the book but to force follow the rules is the work of inspectors, unfortunately under the table settlement helps to ignore rule resulting in all mishaps.

condolence to those who expired.government of Punjab is requested to compansitate to all injured , expired and mill owners, dont fine and punish mill owners because they are endevouring for the prosperity of beloved Pakistan.

There are Govt. inspectors who are supposed to certify boilers, fire equipment, other safety measures on a regular basis. But some of them just fill in false paperwork by taking bribes from the owners who are too callous about safety of their employees. The CM should personally order punishment for the owners and inspectors alike. But Mr. Shahbaz Sharif do not involve Rana Sanaullah in the inquest!
