PESHAWAR, Oct 16: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has reiterated that the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government is strong enough and it can survive any move aimed at toppling it.

Mr Durrani dispelled an impression that a forward bloc was in the making in the six-party religious alliance, saying “the MMA members are not a saleable commodity.”

Talking to newsmen after attending a function held at the Nishter Hall here on Thursday in connection with the World Food Day, he said that besides the MMA members, he also enjoyed the support of major opposition parties in the NWFP Assembly, including PPP, PML-N and the ANP.

He said these three political parties had categorically stated that they would not be part of any conspiracy hatched to dislodge the provincial government. He said that no one could buy loyalties of the MMA members.

When asked about the military operation against Al Qaeda suspects in the tribal region, Mr Durrani said that tribal belt was beyond the provincial government’s jurisdiction and the MMA government had no concern with the operation.
