QUETTA: In the wake of assassination of Punjab home minister Shuja Khanzada, police have worked out a new security plan for foreign missions, ministers, parliamentarians and major government installations in Balochistan, says IG Mohammad Amlish.

In an interview with APP, he said that Mr Khanzada and his associates were killed in a terrorist attack in his village because of weaknesses in security cover. “Learning a lesson from the attack, we have redesigned our security plan.”

He said that all security agencies were cooperating with each other to ensure implementation of the National Action Plan to counter terrorism in letter and spirit in the province.

“Now, everyone is witnessing restoration of peace in a province which remained a volatile region over the past few years. The credit for this goes to the federal and the provincial governments and security agencies, including police,” he said.

Replying a question, the IG said that the home department had provided adequate security to ministers and parliamentarians, adding that ministers themselves had selected their guards.

He said that police needed collaboration of representatives of local governments and tribal elders to curb heinous crimes and drug smuggling.

“Politicians will have to extend cooperation to police for complete restoration of peace,” he said.

He said that a plan was being devised for cooperation among police, local bodies’ representatives and people to maintain law and order in different areas.
