WHILE visiting various cities, towns and villages of Sindh, from Karachi to Kashmor, one can see open and overflowing gutters , broken roads, clogged lanes and choked drains and nullahs. These open gutters and drains have become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. When clogged, they create stagnant pools of water, providing an ideal haven for these pests as one can see in every Sabzi Mandi, especially, the Sabzi Mandi in Larkana . Malaria is currently one of the leading causes of death in the upper and lower regions in the province.

These gutters, manholes and drains in my home city, Larkana, are designed in such a manner that they fail to collect sewage and rainwater. In the wake of the ongoing heavy monsoon rains and man-made floods, these open drains have become a serious issue in every city, town and village in the province.

The people throughout the province complain that they have no viable outlets other than the streets and drains for their trash. People are also compelled to dispose of their litter/ trash, domestic waste not only in the streets but also in the rivers, canals and lakes.

Is there anyone in this province to provide trash bins to the people and educate them about how to use these.
