LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Friday sealed several restaurants and food outlets besides imposing fine on others over poor cleanliness and hygiene.

According to a PFA spokesperson, a special team in Gulberg Town headed by Director (Operations) Ayesha Mumtaz inspected Ambassador Hotel on Davis Road and sealed its food operations section over presence of rats in chillers and bakery, cleanliness issues, unhygienic meat stored in freezers, inappropriate drainage system, use of food products without labels and manufacturing/expiry dates and workers not carrying medical certificates.

The team also sealed Laziza Grill, Al-Abbas Restaurant, Al-Rehman Store and Fareedi Pan Shop on Pepsi Road besides imposing fine on Salt and Pepper restaurant in Liberty Market.

The team in Samanabad sealed a mayonnaise production unit and Naqeebi Food Traders on Poonch Road and had five persons arrested for intervening in the team’s affairs.

The PFA’s Nishtar Town team sealed Muhammadi Restaurant, New Metro Restaurant, Nadeem Bakers, Al-Maiwat Milk Shop, Sabir Naqeebia Murgh Chanay, Al-Mashhoor Safdar Sweets and Pehlwan Milkshake, Fruit Chaat and Dahi Bhallay on Ferozepur Road near Gajjumata.

The Ravi Town team had a man arrested in Akbari Mandi for purchasing skimmed milk powder that was meant to be mixed with dry milk and sold in market. The team later handed over the man to police. During preliminary investigation, he said he had bought the milk from Aamir traders. The team also sealed Haroon Traders and Humayun Rashid Butt Oil Traders. It also imposed fine on Rehmani Tijarat Oil Traders.

The Iqbal Town team of PFA sealed Kashmir Juice Corner and Ali Restaurant at Thokar Niaz Baig, Pak Sweets Manufacturing Unit at Niazi Adda and imposed fine on Mashallah Paratha Corner.

The team in Data Ganj Bakhsh Town sealed Raoof Naan Shop and Hafiz Sweets Lal Khoo on Fayyaz Road and Sanda and imposed fine on Salt and Pepper, The Mall.

The teams in Shalimar, Wagah and Aziz Bhatti towns sealed Hafiz Dry Fruit, Saleem Dry Fruit, Saeed Store and Arif Store, Shahzad Fresh Milk Point and Bao Gee Pan Shop in Sultanpura, Shalimar Link Road, Jallo Morr and Bahadur Shah Road. Fine was imposed on Sufi Bakery and Poppy Chargha House.

According to officials, the sealed premises would be de-sealed after seven days subject to gravity of offence.
