ISLAMABAD: US Ambassador to Pakistan, Richard G. Olson paid a farewell visit to Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday.

The finance minister on the occasion lauded the services of the outgoing US envoy for promoting Pak-US relations and appreciated his positive and cooperative attitude during his tenure in Pakistan.

Olson also expressed gratitude on the occasion for the cooperation he was offered while he was serving his tenure in Pakistan.

The US envoy appreciated Dar’s endeavours to forge broad based bilateral economic relations, in particular his work with Pak-US Economic Working Group.

He also highly appreciated the financial stability and the remarkable economic turnaround that Pakistan has achieved during the past two years

Ishaq Dar wished Olson the best for his future diplomatic assignments.

Ambassador Olson was sworn in by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on September 24, 2012. His previous assignment was as the Coordinating Director for Development and Economic Affairs at the US Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan from 2011 to 2012.

Olson’s predecessor Munter, who had been an advocate within the Obama administration for reconciliation with Pakistan, resigned in May 2012 after a turbulent tenure in which US forces secretly killed Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad. People close to him have said he was frustrated that the CIA and Pentagon took the lead on Pakistan policy, with Munter’s job effectively to contain the fallout.
