LAHORE: The Syndicate has delegated limited powers under the Government College University, Lahore Ordinance 2002 to Faculty of Science and Technology dean Prof Dr Islamullah Khan to address some of the financial and academic matters of the most urgent nature.

The syndicate also approved the on-going admission process in a meeting summoned by Registrar Dr Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh under Section 2(c) of the GCU Syndicate Business Rules 2004. However, it desired to hold the admissions on a sports basis and several other matters till the appointment of a regular vice chancellor.

The 48th meeting of GCU Syndicate was presided over by University of Veterinary and Health Sciences Lahore Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha with a mutual consensus of syndicate members which included representatives of higher education, finance and law departments, besides Lahore High Court Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, former LHC chief justice Khwaja Muhammad Sharif, Qazi Hamayun Fareed, cricketer Shafqat Rana and MPAs Muhammad Hassaan Riaz and Nazia Raheel.

The Syndicate held that it under the GCU Ordinance 2002 had powers to hold, control and administer the property and funds of the university and it without prejudice should intervene to ensure the smooth functioning of the university.

The Syndicate members also appreciated the university’s administration for timely convening the emergent meeting.
