LAHORE: Senior academics of the Government College University, Lahore, have approached Governor Rafique Rajwana, also the chancellor of the institution, for immediate appointment of vice chancellor.

“Head of all the academic departments at a meeting were unanimous that the absence of vice chancellor is making the situation desperate on the campus with every passing day,” a source told Dawn on Saturday.

The academics also expressed grave concern over the delay in display of merit lists of students who had applied for admission on seats reserved for co-curricular activities and sports.

“Perhaps, this is for the first time in the history of my alma mater that the merit lists of students could not be displayed according to announced schedule,” said the source while quoting a senior faculty member.

According to the source, another faculty member said the academics cannot take to the street and block traffic to make the high-ups to accept their demands. “So they thought it appropriate to approach governor-chancellor through a request which they all signed and dispatched to the Governor House while sending a copy to the newly-posted secretary of the Higher Education Department Irfan Ali.
