Hazara motorway will be 6-lane thoroughfare, says Nawaz

HARIPUR: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif attended the project review ceremony of the Hazara Motorway project in Chichiyan on Thursday, where he announced that the motorway would be a 6-lane thoroughfare, and directed officials to complete the project by December, earlier than the estimated completion date in 2017.
National Highway Authority officials also briefed the premier about the project's progress on the occasion. He was told that the Havalian section of Hazara motorway is being constructed at a cost of over Rs22billion.
Speaking on the occasion, Nawaz said the constructions of roads will bring stability to the region and will pave way for an economic revolution.
Hazara motorway is part of the greater China Pakistan Economic Project, which will bring economic stability to the region, the PM added.
The ground-breaking of the second phase of the project in Mansehra will take place soon, said the premier.
It is pertinent to mention that a by-election has been scheduled for for NA-19, Haripur, on August 16.

Electricity generation projects have been started my friend with China, also Iranian FM is in Islamabad today to discuss power import of 3000MW.
Do you want him to stop working on other projects until the load-shedding is completely over?

dear pm, you are not doing a thing from your own sources. Why personal projection, this is the national wealth which ought to be spent sanely without ostentation or political gains. In develop countries no head of the state or govt do such kind of things, these are the institutions doing their jobs where they need to do, quietly and smoothly.
PM or his cabinet meant to do the only executive job to supervise their respective departments and to lead them towards the best national goals set in their party manifesto.

How much of the $46 billion is being spent on: a) improving healthcare, b) law and order, c) education, d) sanitation and access to clean drinking water, e) improving education system at primary and secondary levels, f) Justice system? Also what kind of checks and balance is being put in place to ensure transparency?
Until we invest in human capital, all the capital expenditure in infrastructure will not pay any dividends.

Yes, PML-N is only building roads and metros becasue they are good at it. Let them do their job to the best of their abilites and we can judge them later on during elections to see if any of these parties delivered what they promised.
I think if PTI delivers on their promises then we will see them lead in the next elections.

@Shoaib Arif This made me laugh. Hazaras being unfortunately targeted are mostly based in Quetts which is the capital of Baluchistan. The Hazara Motorway project relates to a division in KPK (Haripur/Abbottabad & Mansehra).

The Dawn has very rightly pointed out at the end that precisely it's the upcoming by election on 16 Aug. Construction of CPEC road network is just a need for corridor and not derived by the sole decision of PM to uplift of an area. PM can not priorities them and can neither sanction or stop their construction. Stop taking their credit for political gains.

@Harmony-1 Its part of Economic Corridor. Once we have the INCOME we can increase investment on health and education as well. Economic development is all about integrated development. With improvement in educational standards you also need to create employment opportunities and to create employment opportunities you need to develop infrastructure. Five star road network maybe considered a luxury in 19th century but its a basic requirement in 2015

Before government can provide you with anything else you all need to start paying taxes. How many people do that. Motorway will bring prosperity and hope fully people will pay taxes so utilities and amenities can be provided to the public. Remember govenment cannot give you any thing on its own.

Every time the government starts a project the PTI supporters say oh but we need education first. Most of you need common sense first. Ok..I think I just shot down the chances of this comment being published.
As far as the country is concerned she needs security, political and economic stability first so that it can concentrate on educating its citizens. This howver does not mean the supporters of opposition just blindly prop up another area that government should concentrate on without giving it credit for what it is doing to improve the country's infrastructure.

China invests, builds with Chinese expertise and labour and with Chinese materials and uses the same for moving it goods. What is Pakistan's contribution to this, that China will share profits with Pakistan? Pakistan is just being used. That's all. Bitter pill this is but you have to accept and swallow it.

If this project is very important, why not 2 lanes on each side, with future possibilities to extend the lanes to 6 on each side??? And invest rest of money saved on nation's other priorities like health, education, policing etc.

@Tan - I don't know whether you ever came out on the streets to protest when there is no electricity in sweltering heat but I know many who did and suffer. Factory production stops too unless you have generators but small machinist sole bread winners can't afford generators. Showcase projects like metros and '6 lane highways' are rubbing salt in the wounds who suffer. Power and water is basic of all basic needs.

To all the PTI trolls criticizing Mr. PM. Education is provincial subject. In the PMs home province school enrollment is the highest and the provincial govt in Punjab is targeting 100% enrollment by 2018. Also tell Punjab government is encouraging education by reimbursing fees for the poor. So shame on u guys for calling PMLn bad when KPK govt of PTI has miserably failed to increase enrollment in KPK.

I don't know what's amusing, our government competency to bring in effective economic reforms or these useless bridges, and metro buses. Yes these bridges will strengthen our infrastructure but who will pay for all these investments. Our current infrastructures are crumbling to dust, our railways are not effective and efficient, our schools and hospitals are ineffective. I haven't heard any news on new schools and hospitals being built by the government. I haven't heard any news on how the government will pay for these investment or what are we trading with China for these investment. The development is one sided in Pakistan, I mean look at Lahore, its beautiful and when I look to Karachi all I see concrete, broken roads, etc. This shows that both federal and provincial governments have failed the cities. Karachi should be developed beautifully with trees and proper planning. All I see is expensive brands and restaurants. Same goes for other cities in Pakistan ...
