LARKANA, Oct 13: A group of students issued life threats to the principal of the Chandka Medical College on Monday while demonstrating outside the office of the academic council when it was busy holding talks with representatives of the students.

The principal, Prof Dr Noor Ahmed Channa, told a group of newsmen in the college that the group boycotted the talks while successful negotiations were being held inside.

The principal along with senior faculty members of the Chandka Medical College later met with the district police officer and apprised him about the situation, the sources said.

Sources said that the majority of the members of the academic council arrived at the conclusion that it would be best to be tough with the “trouble creators” as they were spoiling the atmosphere of the college.

Principal Prof Dr Noor Ahmed Channa, Vice-Principal Assistant Prof Dr Assadullah Mahar, Prof Surgeon Sikandar Shaikh, Prof Zafar Pirzado and other members of the academic council while briefing newsmen about the talks said that most of the problems related to the project director of the Chandka Medical College.

They said that they would recommend to the government to constitute a separate body with engineers and experts to permanently look after the college affairs exclusively.

It was decided to increase the number of books to be issued to students. Besides, a telephone exchange with three new numbers would be made operational within three months, while two new point buses would be purchased.

The college management would encourage extra-curricular activities along with promoting healthy academic conferences.

The students alleged that sub-standard renovation work had been carried out in the college.

They said that poor renovation work had been carried out in hostel 3 and 4.

The principal disclosed that the secretary, communication and works, Government of Sindh, while responding to his official letter had ordered an inquiry into the inferior quality of renovation work done at the college.

The chief engineer, building department, Hyderabad, has been asked to visit the site and submit his report within three days.

PROTEST: Growers on the call of the Sindh Abadgar Board in Shahdadkot on Monday held a protest demonstration demanding the government to fix the price of paddy as Rs400 per 40kg as its support procurement price.

The demonstration was led by Ashaque Mughri, General Secretary, SAB, Larkana district; Mohammed Haroon Soomro, and Wajid Ali Chandio.
