KARACHI: Lahore High Court’s (LHC) former justice Asad Munir assumed charge of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) as its administrator following a decision of the honourable court, a news release said on Monday.

“It is notified for the information of all concerned that in compliance with the Honourable Lahore High Court order dated July 23, 2015 passed in the writ petition no. 21071/2012 (Pakistan Football Federation v Govt. of Pakistan etc), Justice (retd.) Asad Munir has taken over as Administrator of the Pakistan Football Federation at 10:00hrs on 10th August 2015,” said the PFF notification.

The notification was issued by Col Farasat Ali Shah, the acting secretary of a PFF splinter group which ousted its president Faisal Saleh Hayat through an Extraordinary Congress in June.

That move saw the PFF divided into two factions — one led by Hayat and the other by Zahir Ali Shah — and as the two rival bodies moved towards the June 30 elections, the LHC issued a stay on the polls.

The Hayat faction, however, held the polls which were declared null and void by the LHC which appointed an administrator to take charge of the PFF, conduct an audit of its accounts and hold fresh elections.

Munir will get Rs450,000 per month during his time as administrator of the country’s football governing body whilst also enjoying all the other privileges available to the PFF president.

The crisis within the PFF recently saw a mission from the world’s football governing body FIFA come to the country and hold talks with the warring groups.—Sports Reporter
