LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday ordered a rapist to pay Rs1 million as compensation to a child born as a result of rape.
The court issued a detailed verdict pertaining to the protection of children born after rape while hearing a mercy appeal submitted by the convict which was also dismissed by the court.
The verdict said, "the minor baby girl born in result of crime committed by the appellant is 'a person' suffering mental anguish and psychological damage for her whole life, thus, she is entitled for the compensation provided under the law."
The court order directed "the appellant to pay a compensation of Rs10,00,000 (rupees one million) to the victim child and in case of default of payment of such compensation the appellant shall suffer further imprisonment for a period of six months."
Nadeem Masood had raped a woman of Sargodha in 2010, resulting in the birth of a baby girl. A sessions court had sentenced him to 20 years rigorous imprisonment in December 2012 and also ordered him to pay Rs100,000. The convict was also ordered to undergo six-month additional imprisonment in case he failed to pay the amount.
DNA tests of Masood and the victim had been conducted before the conviction was issued.

Just one time fine is not gonna help the girl. It woild gave been better if court ordered yearly compensation ( after all , nomatter what he is the father abd has the 100% responsibility. So it should be -- one time fine ( and one million ruppee is very little ) and plus yearly or monthly support money to the child abd mother.

The judge is tainted. This is a cover up to protect the rapist, who is most certainly a more influential person than the victim.
The court knows very well the rapist will be out of prison before 10 years are over and that he will not pay a penny to the victim.

he committed the crime in 2010 and verdict came in 2015 and that too just a million. what about inflation and legal costs and interest since date of crime. these must form part of the award. additionally we are talking about s minor girl who has complete liberty to reopen the legal case upon attaining adulthood. so what court has awarded may not be the end of legal battle.

If he doesn't pay, he should have the rest of hia life in jail. The amount should have been at least 5 million. Still a ray of hope for the little girl who I dont know how will survive in this society. She shouldn't be treated any different but she will. I hope she has a normal life.

From what I understand, the court penalty is that Rapist should be sent to prison for 20 years and pay Rs 100,000 to the victim (that in addition to prison sentence). If he could not pay Rs 100,000 to the victim than he would spend 6 months in prison more. Further directive is regarding payment to the child born of rape, as he was directed to pay the child Rs 1,000,000 (10 lac ... or 1 million) and if he would not pay that Rs 1,000,000 to the child than his prison terms would increase by further 6 months. That means, if he does not pay anything than he would be in jail for 21 years, else 20 years after paying Rs 100,000 to victim and Rs 1,000,000 to child.

Child alimony per month should be Rs.50000/ per month. He should be responsible to pay until the girl turn 18 years old. After calculations alimony for a year will be Rs.600000(Six Lakh) . For eighteen years it will be Rs.10800000 ( One carore, eight lakh). Mother should get the money and raise the girl.
Confiscate all the properties of this man and auction it to pay the child alimony.

6 months imprisonment is not enough. He should pay monthly bills and financial needs of child along with one million. Otherwise should be additional 10 years or may be rest of his life in jail.

What a travesty of justice!After 20 years jail, additional for a mere 6 months in lieu of a million rupees? He must be made to work in the prison and the amount deposited in the girl's name till it reaches a million and is case of shortall the property of the criminal be attached or keep him in as a guest to protect others. Justice being blind seems additionally foolhardy too.

Indeed this is an appreciable verdict of the apex court of paying the compensation money to the rape victim. But is that sufficient? is the justice done? This leaves so many question unanswered. Who shall marry the rape victim in our society? What shall be the parentage of the child born in result of rape? shall that child legitimacy ever in his life? What would be the social status of the child? Of course with the label of illegitimate the child would spend his whole life in unknown anguish and turmoil. There is need to take some measures for the creation of environment where such kind babies can feel themselves secure financially as well as socially.

Baby girl is born due to rape if this man has a ounce of decency he should do what is right for his child welfare and the poor mother who should be rewarded 1/3 property off this mans as a proper form of compensation and further to deter other men from raping women
