LAHORE: Wapda and National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) entered men and women’s finals at the National Badminton Championships here on Wednesday.

In the men’s team event semi-finals, Wapda beat SNGPL 3-1 and NBP carved out 3-0 win against Higher Education Commission (HEC).

In the women’s team event semi-finals, NBP outclassed Punjab 3-0 and Wapda crushed HEC 3-0.

In the men’s section, against SNGPL, national champion Wajid Ali earned the lead first beating Irfan Saeed 21-18, 21-11.

In the doubles, SNGPL responded to restore the parity when Irfan with Azeem Sarwar defeated Wapda’s pair of Wajid and Subhan Jamil 21-11, 21-18.

But Wapda salvaged the lead when Awais Zahid stretched to full distance to oust Abdur Rehman 17-21, 21-6, 21-14.

In the reverse doubles, Attique Chaudhry and Awais Zahid completed Wapda’s victory, toppling the pair of Masood and Abdur Rehman 21-11, 21-15.

NBP, however, has easy sailing against the HEC as their Murad Ali defeated Anjum Bashir 21-11, 22-20 and then pair of Rizwan and Kashif overpowered Ali Raza-Rizwan 21-16, 21-12 to take 2-0 lead, before Rizwan Azam proved too good against Raja Husnain with the victory of 21-15, 21-18.

Women’s:

Semi-finals: Wapda beat HEC 3-0 (Mahoor Shehzad bt Kausar Javaid 21-4, 21-5; Saima-Farzana bt Ghazala-Kausar 21-11, 21-15; Khizra Rasheed bt Ghazala Siddique 21-18, 10-21, 21-15).

NBP beat Punjab 3-0 (Palwasha Basher bt Amal Munaib 21-6, 21-6; Palwasha-Sara bt Aqsa Zikria-Zunaira Butt 21-6, 21-5; Sara Mahmand bt Javeria Tahir 21-9, 21-18).
