KARACHI: Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said 2015 is the election year for the local governments in Sindh.

The elections earlier scheduled for Sept 20 were postponed for one month on the request of the Pakistan Election Commission, keeping in view the situation in the aftermath of ongoing floods and monsoon rains, he said in reply to a question. The minister was talking to a group of reporters here at KMC bungalows D-28 and D-29 adjacent to Teen Talwar Roundabout at Clifton where he came to take back possession after cancellation of their lease. Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahamd Siddiqui, Municipal Commissioner Sami Siddiqui and other officials were also present.

The minister recalled that in the past, this property had been in the use of former Naib Nazim Tariq Hasan and then Naib Nazima Nasreen Jalil. Before them, it was being used as offices of different departments of the Sindh government.

After assuming the office of the local government minister, he was informed that the property had been transferred in the name of a private person by leasing out illegally. The minister said he had directed the commissioner and administrator of Karachi to initiate an immediate action to cancel the lease and get it back in the possession of the KMC.
