KARACHI: A labourer died while six others sustained injuries when the roof of an under-construction building collapsed inside a food factory in Korangi Industrial Area on Wednesday, police said.

The condition of three injured labourers was stated to be serious.

The labourers were working in the under-construction room on the ground of the factory near Singer Chowrangi when its roof collapsed and fell down on labourers, said SHO Khalid Abbasi.

The injured were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors declared 28-year-old Salman dead on arrival, said Dr Seemin Jamali, head of the emergency department.

She added that out of the injured workers, the condition of 25-year-old Nasir, 45-year-old Altaf and 25-year-old Abdul Sattar was critical. The police officer said that the relatives appeared reluctant to lodge the case.

Multi-storey building falls

A dilapidated multi-storey building in Kharadar, which was recently declared dangerous and vacated, collapsed on Wednesday morning without causing any injury to anyone, officials said.

The five-storey Salih building was constructed in 1983 near the Bantwa hospital. It was declared dangerous by the Sindh Building Control Authority during recent rains and vacated some days ago with help of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, said City SSP Fida Hussain. Therefore, no one was hurt. Teams of utility organisations visited the spot and got its connections disconnected.

The KMC team also visited the place and got the debris removed.

Sindh Minister for Kutchi Abadis Jawed Nagori also visited the spot.
