CHITRAL: Fresh flash flood swept away at least 45 houses in Brep village of Yarkhun valley in the Chitral district on Tuesday morning. No casualties were reported as villagers had already vacated their houses and moved to safe places.

Syed Nazir Hussain Shah, a resident of Breg village, told Dawn that the flood had washed away the buildings of a school and a branch of Utility Stores Corporation apart from destroying scores of shops and water supply schemes. He said flooding had inflicted heavy losses on farmers as thousands of apple trees were destroyed. The harvesting of apple was due next month, he added.

The flood also hit adjoining villages of Bang and Miraggram, causing damage to vast tracts of agricultural lands, irrigation channels and drinking water supply schemes. In the Arkari valley, the flood washed away two pedestrian and one jeepable bridges and 30 houses.
