ISLAMABAD: The government has constituted three committees to resolve the issue of withholding tax imposed on banking transactions made by non-filers of tax returns.

In this regard, tax officials and representatives of business community reached an understanding on Tuesday to come up with workable solution of the issues by mid-August 2015.

The government has introduced a 0.6 per cent withholding tax on non-filers of income tax returns in the budget 2015-16, which was later lowered to 0.3pc for three months. Under the agreement, the Income Tax and Sales Tax Committees shall submit their reports by August 13, 2015. The first meeting of these committees will be held on July 31.

The committee on communication will be headed by MNA Mian Abdul Mannan. Other members of the committee include Nadeem Dar, Zubair Tufail, Anjum Mahmood Butt, Syed Asad Mashhadi, Muzammal Hussain Sabri, Amir Waheed, Sheikh Babar Khurana, Fuad Ishaq and Mohammad Ali Mian.

The committee on income tax will be headed by MNA Malik Pervez. Other members of the committee include Shahid Hussain Asad, Sheikh Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Ali Mian, Zubair Tufail, Anjum Mahmood Butt, Muzammal Hussain Sabri, Malik Sohail Hussain, Khawaja Zarrar Kaleem, Khawaja Tanveer Ashraf, Asim Zulfiqar, Kashif Shabbir.

The sales tax committee include Muhammad Ashraf Khan, Ashfaq Tola, Asif Haroon, Kashif Anwar, S. Khalid Tawab, Syed Asad Mashhadi and Engineer Rizwan.
