LAHORE: White-paper, black day today

Published October 12, 2003

LAHORE, Oct 11: The ARD is issuing a white-paper on Sunday (today), the day Gen Pervez Musharraf completes four years in power. The PML-N will observe the day as black day by setting up protest camps at district and tehsil headquareters all over the Punjab. The party will hold protest meetings for a full week beginning on Oct 13.

Gen Musharraf had toppled the PML-N government on Oct 12, 1999, a step validated by the Supreme Court.

The apex court also gave the general a three-year term to complete his agenda and hold elections to restore the democratic process.

But before the completion of the mandated term, the general got himself elected president through for five years through a referendum, whose validity is being challenged by all opposition parties.

The general’s five-year term started with the inauguration of the new assembly in November last year.

The ARD’s white-paper will be a comment on the performance of the general and the government which came into being as a result of the last year’s elections.
