ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday suspended the non-bailable arrest warrant issued against former president retired General Pervez Musharraf, in the murder case of Lal Masjid cleric Abdul Rashid Ghazi.

A single member bench comprising Justice Aamir Farooq resumed hearing on the petition filed by Gen Musharraf against the issuance of the non-bailable warrants by the sessions court.

Gen Musharraf’s counsel informed the court that his client was in Karachi, where a medical board constituted upon the directions of an anti-terrorism court in Quetta had examined him and advised him to not travel because of his illness. Subsequently, the court in Quetta exempted Musharraf from appearing in court, he added.

He said that medical report was given due consideration by the special court seized with the high treason case against Gen Musharraf. Even the ATC Islamabad considered the report and exempted the petitioner from personally appearing before the court, he added.

The petition requested the court to set aside the non-bailable arrest warrants. The court suspended the warrants and adjourned further proceedings until July 27.
