Iconic Eden Gardens to host World T20 final

NEW DELHI: The iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata will host the World Twenty20 final in April next year, the Indian board said on Tuesday as it announced the venues for the tournament.

The 16-nation men's tournament will be played alongside the women's event across various venues in India from March 11 to April 3.

The other cities selected to host matches in the two-yearly tournament are Bangalore, Chennai, Dharamsala, Mohali, Mumbai, Nagpur and New Delhi, a statement from the home board said.

The final schedule will be announced in consultation with the International Cricket Council (ICC).

“These venues will host matches subject to fulfilling the prescribed requirements of the ICC and the Indian board while adhering to the statutory obligations that are mandatory for hosting an international match,” the statement added.

The 2016 event will be the sixth edition of the popular tournament that began in 2007. The last tournament was won by Sri Lanka in Bangladesh in 2014.

@Worker Just like the Security Council is owned and run by the permanent Five, ICC is owned and run by the Australia, England and India. So forget the International part of ICC and think of Communal Club by the big 3 where others are just allowed to participate.

@Hasan Those who follow cricket in its true essence would surely agree on Eden Gardens Kolkata being an iconic playing field. Of course, those who don't read wouldn't know a jack about it. Google might be of some help for them.

@Hasan Eden garden is 3rd largest cricketing stadium in world ,it's iconic because of its colosseum like structure which make it one of the most beatiful ground in the world.you can learn more about it in Wikipedia

@Hasan Beacause ur fault. You don't have knowledge about cricket.Eden Garden is biggest ground in Asia.The stadium gets its name from the Eden Gardens which is among the oldest parks in Kolkata designed in 1841 and named after the Eden sisters of Lord Auckland.Now capacity was approximately 120,000. Understand..........

@Hasan . MCG(Melbourne Cricket Ground, Lord's of England and Eden gardens of Kolkata are the iconic stadiums for Cricket. If you take 5 wickets, score a century , or take 5 catches, or run out five , these feats will be specially mentioned in record books, and not when you take 6 wickets in Multan or a double century in Dubai. This ground is iconic, not only because its huge, but she has also witnessed many historic moments. She is also one of the oldest cricket stadiums in the world and every cricketer wants to play atleast one international match on this ground in their careers, infront of those huge crowds. Eden Gardens in truly majestic.

If it weren't for the millions in black money that was being funnelled into the BCCI through the institutionally corrupt Premier League, hindustan would be just as forgettable as "Eden Gardens".
