HARIPUR, Oct 9: District Nazim Dr Raja Amer Zaman has said that 471 teachers would be recruited shortly to fill the posts lying vacant at different institutions.

Talking to newsmen, the nazim said the teachers would be employed on merit basis.

He said merit lists of primary schoolteachers would be prepared at the union council level and those for the middle and high schools would be prepared by the district government.

Dr Zaman said that because of the low literacy rate in the hilly areas, middle pass teachers were being hired for primary schools from the Bait Gali and Nara Amazai union councils,  for which approval had been obtained from the provincial government.

He said a committee presided over by Executive District Officer (education) Syed Bashir Shah and comprising the district education committee chairman, the assistant coordination officer and a representative of the schools and literacy department had been constituted for the purpose.

Replying to a question, the nazim said that the district government had spent Rs58.428 million on different educational institutions during the past two years.

He said the medium of instruction had been changed from Urdu to English in two high and 10 primary schools of the district.

He said Rs6.24 million had been spent on supplying furniture, Rs7.4 million on basic facilities, Rs18.461 million for additional rooms and Rs11.86 million for maintenance and renovation of the schools.
