LAHORE: Opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Mahmoodur Rashid on Tuesday submitted a resolution to the assembly secretariat against withholding tax on bank transactions.

Seeking immediate withdrawal of the measure, the resolution fears the step may cause long term negative impact on businesses in the country and the tax burden will ultimately shift to the masses.

The levy, it says, will cause price hike, therefore the federal government should take it back at once.

Meanwhile, JI parliamentary leader Dr Waseem Akhtar has submitted an adjournment motion to the assembly secretariat against corrupt Patwari system. The motion has drawn the authorities’ attention towards a news report regarding a citizen deprived of his land by a couple of patwaris.

He demanded action against the revenue officials concerned and introduction of an effective transparent land computerisation system to rid the people of the Patwar system.
