DERA GHAZI KHAN: Police foiled an attempt to steal crude oil from the Pak Arab Refinery Limited (Parco) pipeline in the Gaddai police area on Monday and arrested three suspects besides confiscating an oil tanker.

Police raided a village house adjacent to Parco pipeline, coming from Karachi to Muzaffargarh, in the vicinity of the police station and arrested Noorul Rehman, Amanullah and Nazir while their accomplice, Sattar Khosa, managed to flee.

District Police Officer Ghulam Mubashar Maikin told Dawn that police had confiscated the oil tanker filled with 6,000 litres of crude oil, stolen from the Parco pipeline. He said the suspects had dug a 30-foot tunnel beneath the pipeline from where they were stealing oil.

Police have registered a case against four suspects.

It is pertinent to mention that Parco has its own security system to protect its pipeline. However, more than one hundred cases had been registered with various police stations in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur against oil theft, a Parco official, who did not want to be named, said.
