MANSEHRA: Two sisters drowned in the Kunhar River while trying to rescue the son of one of them in Garhi Habibullah here on Sunday.

According to police, Rukhsana Bibi, her sister Maria and cousin Shamsa Bibi had gone to the river along with their uncle Mohammad Naeem to beat the heat. Haider Ali, the 10-year-old son of Rukhsana Bibi, who was playing on the bank of river suddenly slipped into the river and his mother and aunt jumped into the gushing water to rescue him but they also drowned.

The local people, present there, jumped into the river and rescued Haider Ali. Later, the bodies of the two sisters were also fished out and handed over to the family.

Despite repeated warnings by district administration and police tourists continue to visit the river. Last year, more than 36 people, mostly tourists, including Nasrullah Saji, the deputy emir of Jamaat-i-Islami Sindh, had drowned in the Kunhar River.

In another incident, Mohammad Waseem, a student of grade 9th, drowned in the Siren River. The local divers later fished out the body and handed it over to family.

KILLED: A man was killed in the name of honour in Jugar Bandi area of Oghi here on Sunday.

Shamshad Bibi told police that her son Mohammad Fiaz had come to the village from Karachi to spend Ramazan and Eid. She said that Mohammad Naseer axed him to death with the help of his other family members as he doubted that the deceased had illicit relations with his wife.

Police after registering FIR arrested the suspect and started investigating.

PTI: The district councillors of PTI have said that there are no differences in the party on the nomination of district chairman.

“It is an undeniable fact that PTI has already achieved majority to form district government in Mansehra but our political rivals are now hatching conspiracies to divide us but they would never succeed at any cost,” Wajid Ali Shah, a district councillor-elect of PTI, told journalists here on Sunday.
