LAHORE: District Coordination Officer (DCO) retired Capt Muhammad Usman issued a notice to 12 price control magistrates for their poor performance in controlling and maintaining prices of commodities in open markets.

According to a spokesman, those served on notices included Waris Thakar, Muhammad Husain, Shahzad Tahir, Nisar Bhatti, Arif Mahmood, Shahid Saroya, Ashraf Janjua, Rana Shahid, Zulfiqar Ali Hanjra, Faiza Ahmad Khichi, Pervaiz Haidri and Azam Shah Jahan. They were asked to clarify their position in three days.

Price control magistrates on Thursday got 160 shopkeepers arrested for overcharging and selling substandard commodities in open markets and Ramazan bazaars. They also imposed a Rs143,000 fine on several others.
