MIRPURKHAS: Cane crushing season

Published October 9, 2003

MIRPURKHAS, Oct 8: The president, Sindh Agriculture Growers Development Association, Rais Ahmed Khan, and the general- secretary of the Sindh Abadgar Board, Imtiaz Panhwar, have expressed resentment over delay in the beginning of the crushing season.

In a joint press statement, they criticized an announcement by sugar mills to begin the crushing season in December, saying that it would result in a loss to the economy of Sindh and also affect the growers negatively.

They further said that due to late harvesting of the sugar- cane crop, wheat-sowing would be affected, moreover, the weight of the sugar-canes would decrease.—Correspondent
