All-round Tariq shines in AKG event

KARACHI: Tariq Haroon excelled with both bat and the ball as Dollar East and Touchme CC qualified for the last-eight phase of the 28th Aga Khan Gymkhana Ramazan Cricket Tournament for the State Life Trophy here on Tuesday.

Dollar East topped Group ‘C’ after sealing a thrilling three-run win at the AKG Ground, while despite being defeated Touchme CC also made it to the quarter-finals.

Chasing 212 for victory, Touchme CC batted gallantly to finish at 208-9 with Pakistan batsman Fawad Alam hitting an unbeaten 69 off 40 balls with seven fours and one six. Skipper Khalid Latif scored 39 off 20 balls with six four and a six and all-rounder Atif Maqbool hit a 23-ball 35 off 23 balls with four fours and a six.

Earlier, Dollar East piled up 211-4 in the allotted 20 overs with Waqas Haroon contributing an undefeated 61 off 36 balls with the aid of four boundaries and five sixes. In-form opener Fakhar Zaman scored 46 in 22 balls with five fours and three sixes and veteran all-rounder Tariq Haroon scored 43 from 35 balls with three fours and as many sixes.

Tariq was later declared man-of-the-match.
