KARACHI: A judicial magistrate remanded a suspect in prison custody in two cases on Wednesday.
Police arrested Kashif Chishti, said to be suffering from some mental illness, on June 30 over an hour after he had kept a road in Defence Housing Authority blocked, fired random shots into the air and held a passer-by family hostage.
Initially, the police brought the suspect before an antiterrorism court for remand, but the cases were referred to area magistrate for lack of jurisdiction.
Thereafter, the investigating officer produced the suspect before judicial magistrate (south) Noor Mohammad Kalmati. The court sent him to prison on 14-day judicial remand and asked the IO to submit investigation reports on the next hearing.
Two cases were lodged against the suspect under Sections 337-H (2) (punishment of hurt by rash or negligent act), 341(punishment for wrongful restraint) of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 23(1) (a) of the Sindh Arms Act, 2013 read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 at the Darakhshan police station.
