Unbeaten Dollar East storm into quarter-finals

KARACHI: Leg-spinner Usman Qadir starred with a five-wicket haul as Dollar East stormed into the quarter-finals of the third Naya Nazimabad Ramazan Cricket Tournament with a crushing seven-wicket victory over Qasmi Gymkhana at the Lawai Cricket Stadium here on Monday night.

Usman, the youngest son of the legendary Pakistan leggie Abdul Qadir, grabbed figures of five for 34 to restrict Qasmi Gymkhana to 161-9 in the stipulated 20 overs of the Group ‘D’ fixture.

Mohammad Rizwan struck 46 off 32 balls with the aid of three sixes and two boundaries, Mohammad .Ikhlaq made a 34-ball 42 that also included three sixes and a brace of fours and Arsalan Bajwa hit 32 off 27 balls with six fours.

Dollar East responded by reaching 165-3 in the 17th over. International Mohammad Rizwan was in belligerent mood as the right-hander slammed six sixes and five fours in racing to 69 from38 deliveries.

But Rizwan was upstaged by left-hander Fakhar Zaman who banged eight massive sixes and one four in making 60 off just 28 balls to claim the man-of-the-match award.

Dollar East’s third consecutive win enabled them to top the pool while Qasmi Gymkhana also qualified for the knockout stage by finishing second

In the evening Group ‘C’ match, Shaboo Star Quetta overwhelmed Jahanian Tigers CC by nine wickets.

Jahanian Tigers CC were bundled out for a paltry 84 with spinners Mohibullah and Atif Maqbool sharing six wickets between them.

Shaboo Star sprinted to victory in 7.5 overs by totalling 85-1.
