LAHORE: Former federal minister Chaudhry Ghias Ahmed Mela died of cardiac arrest in the US. He was 53.

He was elected as member of National Assembly thrice from Sargodha and remained senior vice president of the PML-Q before joining the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf in 2015. He had an MBA degree from the Indiana University, US.

Mela has also served as chairman of the Standing Committee on Housing and Works and as federal state minister for human resource development. His body will be flown to Pakistan and funeral will be held on Wednesday at Mela village in Sargodha district.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
