LAHORE, Oct 7: The Punjab has attained food security for the year and there would be no wheat crunch this year.

This assurance was given by the Punjab food minister here on Tuesday while talking to newsmen after an open kutchery at the Muslim League House.

The province had procured 2.4 million tons of wheat last season and had a carry-over of 200,000 tons. The total stock of 2.6 million tons was sufficient to see the Punjab through the year.

He denied rumours about restriction on inter-provincial movement of wheat. The government was alive to the issue and aware of all dimensions of the ban.

The chief minister has instructed the food department to make special arrangements for the forthcoming holy month of Ramazan. During the month, the poor and destitutes would get special packages.

The minister said that the Muslim League was being re-organized in the country to better serve the masses. “It is the only party capable of protecting rights of people and developing Pakistan,” he claimed.
