ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office (FO) confirmed on Friday that the Government of Pakistan is in touch with British authorities with a view to seek information and facts of the BBC report that claimed Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has received funding from Indian authorities.

"The contents of BBC's report are of vital significance to the state of Pakistan," said the FO spokesman Qazi Khalilullah.

Earlier on Thursday during a weekly news briefing in Islamabad, the spokesman commented on the BBC report saying, “The government of Pakistan has taken notice of it and concerned ministries are investigating the matter.”

On the same day, while talking to media personnel, Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan had said he held a meeting with British High Commissioner Philip Barton, during which he asked the high commissioner for his government's assistance in accessing details of the disclosures made in the BBC report.

"The high commissioner has recommended that I write an official letter from the government of Pakistan to the British government, requesting access to details relating to the disclosures made in the BBC report," said Nisar at the time.

The interior minister said he would formally write to the UK government Friday (today), requesting Pakistani authorities' access to key information in relation to the serious allegations levelled by the BBC against MQM.

Nisar also commented that the sensitive disclosures made in the BBC report gave weight to Pakistan's suspicions about India's involvement in the country.
