ISLAMABAD: The driver of a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) was put behind bars on the charge of stealing fuel in connivance with a filling station staff on Tuesday.

Police said DSP Bashir Noon was travelling in his official vehicle when his driver stopped at a fuel station in the city. The driver took the fuel card of the vehicle from a police official deputed at the station to maintain record of official vehicles and handed it to a petrol pump employee.

After filling the tank of the vehicle with 20 litres of petrol, the driver whispered to the filling station employee who handed him a computerised receipt. The driver then gave the receipt to the police official. On suspicion, the DSP asked the police official to show him the computerised receipt.

When the DSP checked the receipt, he found that 25 litres petrol was mentioned in it instead of 20 litres. Later, when the police questioned the driver and the filling station employee, they said the illegal practice had been going on for many years.

A case was registered with the Shams Colony police against the driver on the complaint of the DSP. The driver was put behind bars for further investigations.
