Tendulkar superfan ‘pelted with stones’ in Bangladesh

Sudhir Gautam, arguably Sachin Tendulkar and India’s biggest fan, claimed that he was attacked by Bangladesh spectators in Dhaka hours after India’s humiliating series defeat to the hosts on Sunday.
The 34-year-old Sudhir, who paints his body with the Indian tri-colour, told a Hindi news channel that he was “pelted with stones” and the auto-rickshaw he was travelling in was also attacked.
“Angry spectators chased my auto and screamed that they wanted to take revenge for Bangladesh's World Cup quarterfinal defeat against India,” said Sudhir, adding that security officials had to intervene to save him from the unrelenting mob.
Ninteen-year-old left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman tore through the Indian batting order once again to help Bangladesh seal the three-match ODI series with a thumping six-wicket win in Dhaka.
The win, which followed Thursday's 79-run success, all but confirmed Bangladesh's place in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.
Having already won the series, Bangladesh and India will meet in the final ODI on Wednesday.
Gautam is Tendulkar's ‘biggest’ fan and used to travel around the world to watch the now-retired star play. Painted in the colours of the Indian flag — with his idol's name written across his chest and back, he still a prominent sight in the stand whenever India plays.

It's seems certain to me that Pakistanis (public) are far better hosts and shower much more warmth on touring fans from India. This was very evident when India toured Pak in 2004 and 2006-07.
Wish we played more often, would love to visit Lahore for a test / ODI game.

Tendulkar, wasim akram, Viv Richards type of players who are respected in all cricket playing country and have lot of following . Any fan of these type of players is a real lover of this game and he should be respected. Hope this will be the last incident because it cannot be justified by any means. If Gavaskar lands at Karachi Airport there will be thousands of cricket fans who will give him a warm welcome.

If they play good crick no one can stop them, but I don't understand what is the revenge they want to take with this act, abuse words or using slang on social sites etc. I just suggest them this is a sport we should take as sportively in any situation.

@Karthik This is mere an unfortunate incident, as a Bangladeshi, we feel sorry for that isolated undesirable phenomena; but it doesn't carry any sense of comparing Pakistanis with Bangladeshis irrelevantly. This gentleman has been in Bangladesh several occasions and enjoyed the cricket matches at the same venue, the 'Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium' but never received this type of troubles. It's also admitted(from the report) that he has been timely rescued by the law enforcing agencies and things were not getting worse.

As a follower of cricket I feel this Bangladesh team has played well in this series.
They have overcome their mental block and now believe in themselves and are
getting good results but this kind of behaviour from fans is not acceptable and
hopefully will be condemned in BD so it does not repeat.
As an aside I must add that Pakistani Chacha was sitting next to us during an
Indo-Pak test match in Bengaluru (Bangalore then) and he was a very friendly,
vocal Pakistani patriot screaming lines like "O Mere Misbah ...". He was shown
lot of affecion and respect by the crowd around him. These kinds of fans
add colour to the game and can help build bridges.

There are lots of doubt about the incident, as mr sudhir said he took a auto near the gate, well every body knows in Bangladesh that it is impossible to find a auto near gate as it is so crowded. Anyway , if it true we all are sorry ;we cann't follow what happened in 1996 worldcup semifinal or 1999 Asian test championship or 2009 pak srl test. Bangladeshis are most gentle people though I believe we need to be little aggressive as we know how we are hated by both indians( especially north Indians) and pakistanis for some reasons ( maybe something to do with the color of skin ). We, all Bangladeshi need to be tough to show these racist people where they truly belong to.

dear all, Sudhir scandal is a minor fact, if you realise it. Sudhir's story is inflated as it is being publicized in various media. He was not physically touched although angry supporters teased him and when he was helped by two policemen to leave the stadium, one/two of the spectators tried to pelt brickbats at his auto, which usually never reached him. Whatever it is, it shouldn't be. Our guests must not feel uncomfortable anywhere on our soil. Its our duty. It reminds me of 1996 WC match between Ind and Sri at Eden Garden when angry Indian fans almost spoiled the on-going match seeing the defeat of their team. It is very unfortunate but bad things happen sometimes.

Bangladesh is a far better team. They have some classy players and they are working well as a team. They will do better and better. No surprise that India lost. While we cant blame the Indian cricketers, no one, including any non-BCCI guy in India hates BCCI for all its corruption and money laundering. With a stamp of non-profit organization to avoid paying tax in hundreds of millions there is no accountablity. While IPL does bring in huge entertainment value for 2 months, it is all about nexus between the cine field, business world, cricketers and politicians who make huge amount of $. With the find of players like Nohit, Ravindra Jadeja I can only see India will do well only within India. With Bangladesh doing so well, even that is under threat. Good job Bangladesh

Fans, like Sudhir, is an ambassador of the game of cricket. Such fan always transmitted a positive energy, a message of peace and harmony across the political and geographic boundaries. I am sad to hear that the Bangladeshi fans became so mannerless and etiquette-less that they pelted stone on Sudhir, the biggest of Sachin Tendulkar and the Indian Cricket. No doubt, the Bangladeshi team played nice games and they manage to defeat Indian Team in consecutive two matches. However,these couple of wins doesn't make you a star cricket team or the star players. Kindly have some manner to digest the wins. The team is just growing up, even not became a mature one in the field (e.g. Mushfiqur Rahman was blocking batsman taking run). The Bangladeshi cricket fan should have maturity. @Imran I saw the video, I agree with you that they didn't hit him or hurt him but they pushed him holding his clothes and using a stick threatened to beat him up and finally police came to his rescue. I just saw the interview of Mr. Shudir at the Bangladeshi local channel "Independent Television" and where he totally denied any physical assault or being thrown any stones. He said that somebody pushed him in the back, and he categorically mentioned that nothing serious had happened. So I request Indian fans to stop the blame game and criticize the Bangladeshi cricket fans for no reason.

Bangladesh only won in the their home and played all 10 games in a same ground with home advantage ground. Our Pakistani team was the weakest team ever and paid the price for it. Defeat us some where else and than you will be considered a good team..lets see the consistency..I am just surprised why they are even called Tigers when they are just small cats who beat 2 big teams series once in 30 years!

unfortunately, the over the top behavior of Bangladeshis following any win or losses is somewhat inexplicable. The way that country went into a mass hysteria after the WC loss to India, blasting away neutral umpires and judges, is deplorable. The hysteria went on for days and weeks, with the choicest slangs and cartoons reserved for Indian fans. One is overwhelmed with such behavior. I have been watching India and Pakistan games since I was a kid, but cannot remember such gross misconduct among fans of either country. And we thought Pakistan and India are hostile and Bangladesh is supposed to be a friend!!!

A few Bangladeshi spectators who made the mess might be the spoiled child of the condition; I guess, they will soon realize their faults when Bangladesh would have been got more success in the upcoming years on cricket. However, I reiterated once again: it was an isolated but definitely deplorable incident. And it's a common phenomena found in Indian Sub-Continent mostly, as because we are not been graduated as such due to the lack of our settled minds and expressions! Never mind my friend! Forget and forgive!
