HYDERABAD, Oct 6: The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture has urged the Sindh government to implement directives of the prime minister on the fixing of minimum price of sugarcane, payment of quality premium and commencement of the crushing season.

At the SCA weekly meeting held here on Sunday it was noted that the prime minister had issued a directive to sugar mills that they should immediately pay the dues and quality premium to the growers.

The meeting, presided over by chamber president Syed Qamruzzaman Shah, recalld that the prime minister had also directed that sugar mills should start the crushing season from Nov 1.

It noted that the prime minister had also ordered that minimum price of sugarcane should be paid at the rate of Rs43 per 40kg.

The chamber adopted a unanimous resolution calling upon the Sindh government to implement the directives of the prime minister without any delay.

gas metres: Chairman Hyderabad Site Association of Trade and Industry Mazharul Haq has taken strong exception to the discrimination being observed by the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) in respect of metre charges.

In a statement on Sunday, he said the SSGC had levied Rs1,000 per month as metre charges on industrial units in Karachi but in Hyderabad and Kotri, meter charges varied between Rs8,000 to Rs12,000 per month.
