HYDERABAD, Oct 6: Activists of the Sindh Hari Committee held a protest demonstration and observed a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Monday against the shortage of water in Khachar Shakh, Tando Muhammad Khan sub-division, and the water rotation programme.

Led by SHC president Azhar Jatoi, the protesters raised slogans against the superintending engineer and the executive engineer concerned.

Talking to journalists, the protesters demanded action against corrupt irrigation officers and an end to the rotation programme.

They further demanded that water supply to tail-end areas should be ensured and growers of these areas be exempted from paying land revenue and water charges.

Mr Jatoi said activists of the SHC would observe a hunger strike unto death outside the Hyderabad Press Club from Friday if the Sindh government did not stop the rotation programme and release water in the Khachar Shakh.
