PESHAWAR, Oct 6: Customs officials have arrested three drug traffickers and seized seven kilograms of heroin near Nasirpur town, said an official statement here on Monday.

The statement said that the Customs Intelligence personnel, acting on a tip-off on Sunday evening, stopped a Toyota coaster (RIR-8807) on Grand Trunk Road near Nasirpur town and during search recovered 7.14 kg of fine quality heroin from the secret cavities of the vehicle.

The team arrested the driver, Abid, and the helper, Ashfaq Khan.

The Customs also arrested the owner of the heroin and coaster, Abdul Qayyum, from Pajaggi road in the city.

The city police in separate incidents on Monday also seized 92 kg of hashish and arrested three alleged smugglers including two women near Gulbahar area.

The Gulbahar police on suspicion stopped a car (FDZ-3145) and during search recovered the contraband concealed in the secret cavities in the vehicle.

The police arrested Zafar Iqbal of Haripur, Rahat, wife of Nadeem, a resident of Mardan and Perveen, wife of Javed, a resident of Tarbela.

MANHANDLING: A rickshaw driver of the city has accused a traffic police official of manhandling, when he denied to grease his palm.

The rickshaw driver, Rehmanullah, told reporters at the press club here that he was looking for customers on Charsadda Road a week ago, when traffic officer Sher Alam stopped him and asked him for Rs100 as bribe to allow him to ply his rickshaw on the road.

On his refusal, he alleged, the traffic police official severely beat him and tore his clothes and later on brought him to the traffic police headquarters where an FIR was registered against him.

He appealed to the police high-ups to initiate inquiry and compensate for the inhumane attitude he suffered he was meted.
