PESHAWAR, Oct 5: The Peshawar University Teachers Association will hold a seminar to mark the World Teachers Day on Monday (today), said a press release here on Sunday.

The seminar to be held at the Institute of Education and Research will be addressed by Dr Mohammad Ashraf Adeel, Prof Dr Wazim Khan, S. Munir Ahmad, Waseem Ahmad Khan, Arbab Khan Afridi, Prof Dr Zakia Ali, Arshad Ali and Nadeem Khan.

The speakers will discuss different issues concerning teachers and their role in society and educational institutes, said the press release.

The day is being observed in line with a Unesco’s declaration which announced Oct 5 as World Teachers Day in 1994.

After the seminar, teachers will march from the Teachers Community Centre to Senate Hall at 4pm holding placards and banners inscribed with their role and significance in society and the problems faced by them.

Meanwhile, Joint Action Committee chairman Arbab Khan Afridi has asked the teacher community of the province to hold rallies, functions, walks and seminars to observe the World Teachers Day.

He said letters had already been sent to NWFP Governor Iftikhar Hussain Shah and Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani to celebrate the day officially.
