KOHAT: Local police on Tuesday foiled an attempt to smuggle huge quantity of arms and ammunition from the gun manufacturing town of Darra Adamkhel to Lahore.

Officials said that a police party was snap checking the vehicles on the Rawalpindi road near Ghulam Banda railway crossing when it stopped a truck (K-9842). During search of the vehicle the police recovered four Kalashnikovs, three repeaters, three rifles, 40 pistols, 50 chargers and 85,000 cartridges.

The police arrested Asim Iqbal, a resident of Lachi tehsil of Kohat, and Waseem Ahmed Afridi belonging to Darra Adamkhel. A case was registered against them in Bilitang police station and investigations began.
