RIUJ polls today

ISLAMABAD, Oct 3: As many as 912 mediapersons of the twin cities of Rawalpindi-Islamabad will go to polls on Saturday to elect the office-bearers of Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ), says a member of the election commission conducting the polls.

The polling will start at 10am and continue till 7pm.

As many as 36 candidates from two panels are in the run for different RIUJ offices. Those contesting for the slot of president are Afzal Butt from the Democratic Panel and Amir Mehmoob from Inquilabi.

Those vying for the two positions of vice-president are Nasir Chishti, Asim Rana, Waqar Kazmi, Mobarik Virk (Dawn) and Rashid Habib. The candidates contesting for the post of general-secretary are Ijaz Hussain Malik (The News), Najamus Saqib and Sajjad Tareen as an independent.
