LAHORE, Oct 3: A 20-member delegation of lawyers returned from India on Friday after attending the International Legal Conference at Chandigarh.
The conference was hosted by the Chandigarh High Court Bar Association.
The Pakistan delegation was led by PBC vice-chairman Mohammed Arif Chaudhry and comprised Punjab advocate-general Syed Shabbar Raza Rizvi, PBC’s former vice-chairman Ramzan Chaudhry and others.
After his return, Arif Chaudhry told newsmen the visit had been successful and enlightening with regard to legal issues. He claimed to have invited Punjab (Indian) High Court Bar Association members to Lahore for the next International Legal Conference likely to be held in December this year.
“I assured my Indian counterparts that I would request my government to issue them visas for attending the conference. I have also brought an Indian visit invitation for Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi and the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry,” he said.
He said the Pakistan delegation was given a warm welcome in India, and he was also given the honour to become the cochairman of a session of the conference. The Pakistani delegates and their hosts had agreed in principle that a frequent exchange of delegations between the two countries was a must to promote the message of love and peace.
He said no joint declaration with regard to the common legal issues had been signed, but a consensus had been reached among the neighbour lawyers for seeking each other’s assistance on such issues.
