This is with reference to the article by Peerzada Salman titled ‘What is Karachi’s audience?’ (May 18).

Since the article is relevant to ‘I Am Karachi’ and the work that this movement has initiated to bring peace and unity to it, we could not understand why the writer misconstrued the participants to be mostly from District South which, on the contrary, were least participative.

A sincere effort has been made by the founding members of ‘I Am Karachi’ who invite and engage Karachiites from all across the city irrespective of their social, cultural, ethnic, economic or religious background to do their part in owning Karachi to make it an inclusive movement.

It has gone where people fear to tread. Football tournaments were organised in Ibrahim Hyderi Stadium in Korangi and People’s Stadium in Lyari, bringing joy and happiness to large crowds.

‘Re-imaging Walls of Karachi’, a project which removes hate and political graffiti from walls and replaces this menace with beautiful messages of peace, is ongoing in different areas, including Tower, Saddar, M. A. Jinnah Road, Shahra-i-Qaideen, Jail Chowrangi, NIPA Bridge, University Road, Shah Faisal Colony, Airport and Dalmia among others. Engagement by ‘I Am Karachi’ has cut across varied areas, such as Orangi Town, Landhi, F.B. Area, Metroville, Gadap, Baldia Town, Sohrab Goth, Mangopir, SITE, Machar Colony, Ayesha Manzil, Expo Centre, Abbas Town, Karachi University, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Malir and the list goes on.

‘I Am Karachi’ is for anyone and everyone who lives in Karachi.
