FAISALABAD, Oct 3: Four people, including two children, were killed and 52 others injured when the roof of a house caved in at Ashrafabad here on Friday.

Reports said Ghulam Qadir had made lunch arrangements on the roof of the house to entertain the participants in marriage parties of his two daughters. Suddenly the roof of a room collapsed due to the heavy load on it. Dozens of guests sitting in the room or taking their meal on the upper storey sustained injuries.

The injured were taken to the local Allied and DHQ hospitals where Razia Bibi (60), Sardaran Bibi (54), Momina (2) and Zeeshan (4) were pronounced dead.

The injured include Ghulam Fatima, Rabia, Saima, Tasleem Bibi, Saira, Shahabat, Mahmood Akbar, Jawed, Asif, Munawwar, Kausar, Ghaffar, Kaneez, Shakeela, Naureen, Khaleel, Asif Ali, Zubaida Bibi, Musarrat, Sana, Irum, Lubna, Manzooran, Noshi, Sharifan, Saifur Rahman, Sheeren, Rashida, Rahat, Amina, Shamim, Shagufta, Ashraf, Mumtaz, Rizwan, Saleem, Shabbir Husain, Nasreen and Fida Nadeem. The condition of two of the injured was stated to be critical.

boycott: The students of the Punjab Medical College boycotted on Friday the examination and staged a demonstration in front of the main campus against the affiliation of the college with the University of Health Sciences.

The students refused to appear in the written papers on the plea that the examinations under the UHS were illegal and against the interests of student.

They raised slogans against the provincial government. They vowed to continue their protest movement till the affiliation of the college with UHS withdrawn.

SHOT DEAD: A boy was shot dead by a gang of cattle thieves on resistance at Chak 378-GB, in Jaranwala police station precinct, on Thursday night.

Reports said five cattle thieves were taking a buffalo from Allahdin’s outhouse at Chak 378-GB when a boy, Hayat Ahmad, saw them and raised an alarm. The outlaws opened fire on Hayat, killing him on the spot. The armed assailants fled.

Relevant police have registered a case against the suspects with no arrest so far.
