ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan signed two agreements on Thursday after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in Bishkek following his two-day official visit to Turkmenistan, said a report published on Radio Pakistan.

The agreements signed were related to cooperation in disaster management and anti-narcotics. The signing ceremony was witnessed by PM Nawaz and his Kyrgyz counterpart Sariyev Temir.

During the meeting between the two premiers, PM Nawaz appreciated the political maturity displayed by the people of Kyrgyzstan pertaining to democratic norms and culture.

PM Nawaz said that both countries have common cultures, history and a desire for stable and peaceful region.

During the delegation-level talks between PM Nawaz and his Kyrgyz counterpart Sariyev Temir, the two sides discussed methods of enchancing cooperation in various fields such as trade, economy and energy.

Upon his arrival in the Kyrgyz capital city, PM Nawaz was received by the premier of Kyrgyzstan and his cabinet members.

During a formal welcome ceremony at the airport, the national anthems of both countries were played and PM Nawaz was given a guard of honour.

PM Nawaz also held a meeting with Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambaev in Bishkek. The premier appreciated President Atambaev's leadership under which the country has seen remarkable development since independence.

PM Nawaz said that both countries must ensure that their special ties are transformed into a strategic partnership encompassing all areas of bilateral relations. He added that the existing trade volume is not equivalent to the actual potential that exists and both countries should world towards increasing it.

Pakistan is eager to see a prosperous Central Asia with all countries connected by rail, road and air links and generating business, PM Nawaz said.

Federal Ministers Khurram Dastgir Khan, Khawaja Asif, State Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Jam Kamal, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Tariq Fatimi and Political Secretary to Prime Minister Dr Asif Kirmani are accompanying the premier on this visit.

Pakistan and Turkmenistan on Wednesday decided to enhance connectivity by establishing transportation and communication links and to pay special attention to establishing air, road and rail links on priority basis.

During a two-day official visit to Turkmenistan, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held talks in the sphere of mutual interest concerning bilateral, regional and international issues.

According to a joint communiqué, the two sides expressed their determination to comprehensively upgrade their cooperative partnership, which is in the fundamental interests of their peoples and is an important factor in promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

Turkmenistan also expressed support for the efforts of Pakistan to combat the menace of terrorism and extremism.
