QUETTA: The Quetta Electricity Supply Company (Qesco) has severed hundreds of power connections during a campaign launched against the defaulters across the province on Wednesday.

“The action against the defaulters will continue until dues are fully cleared,” a Qesco spokesman said, adding that billions of rupees were outstanding against agriculture, commercial, domestic and government consumers in the province.

A team headed by superintending engineer, central Quetta, launched the massive crackdown on Qesco defaulters in the city.

“At least 25 connections of agriculture tubewells and 12 of private community water supply were cut because of non-payment of dues,” the spokesman said.

During the campaign, the Qesco team found two transformers being used by ice factories and action was taken against the factory owners on the spot while 1,225 domestic, commercial and government connections were cut.

A similar drive against defaulters was launched in Sibi, Dera Murad Jamali, Gandawah, Bhag and adjacent areas of Nasirabad district where 310 power connections were cut off.

The task force removed 33 transformers in these areas for non-payment.

Power supply was stopped from eight feeders in Khuzdar town, while in Turbat a Qesco team confiscated transformers and severed over 100 connections during the campaign.

Qesco teams also took action against the defaulters in northern parts of Balochistan, including Loralai, Khanozai, Qila Saifullah, Zhob and some other areas.
