PESHAWAR: Military planes pounded hideouts in Dattakhel area of North Waziristan tribal region on Wednesday and killed at least 13 militants, said Inter Services Public Relations.

It said five hideouts were destroyed in the action. The hideouts were bombed near the Afghan border, inflicting heavy losses on the suspected militants. However, the official claim could not be verified through independent sources.

Army and Frontier Corps troops backed by air force have been conducting operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan since June 2014 and major towns, including Miramshah and Mirali, have been cleared of militants. However, Dattakhel adjacent to the Afghan border has not been secured so far.
