SUKKUR: A clash between two rival tribes armed with rockets and automatic weapons left a young man and an unspecified number of cattle head dead in Mehran Bijarani village near Ghouspur town of Kandhkot-Kashmore district on Monday.
Reports from the village suggested that a group of around 20 armed men said to be members of the Teghani tribe raided the village and opened indiscriminate fire killing a shepherd, Noor Din Bijarani, and a number of buffaloes and other animals. The attackers also took away the surviving buffaloes.
On receiving information about the attack, armed Bijaranis rushed to the village and challenged their rivals. In the ensuing battle, more animals were killed. A herd of sheep also perished when a rocket was fired during the clash.
Rs2.3m fine for murder
A jirga (tribal court) held in Akbar Banglani village near Tangwani town of Kandhkot-Kashmore district on Monday imposed a fine of Rs2.3 million on a man found guilty of murder.
The jirga presided over by a tribal elder, Jehangir Banglani, heard the two sides in the dispute and found Rajib Khoso guilty of killing Hafeezullah Bijarani. A large number of people belonging to the Khoso and Bijarani tribes attended the jirga proceedings.
The guilty side paid Rs100,000 on the spot to the aggrieved side and undertook to pay off the remaining fine amount within the next three months.
Man kills sister ‘for honour’
A 17-year-old woman was shot dead allegedly by her brother on suspicion of her having an extramarital affair in Aftab Colony on Monday, officials at the A-Section police station of Ghotki district said.
They said that the suspect, Saddam Lolai, son of Pakhi Lolai, killed his sister, Shazia Lolai, with his pistol in their house and escaped.
